Compress PDF

Make a PDF smaller so it is easy to email or upload. Type the size you need, in KB or MB.

How to use Compress PDF

  1. Choose the PDF you want to shrink.
  2. Type the size you need, in KB or MB, for example 500 KB for an upload form.
  3. Press compress and wait while the pages are processed in your browser.
  4. Check the result, then download the smaller PDF.

Why use this tool

Scanned documents and PDFs full of photos can easily reach many megabytes. Email services and online forms often refuse files above a certain size, so a smaller PDF saves you from failed uploads. Compressing lowers the size by reducing the weight of the images inside the document.

Tips for best results

  • Open the result and make sure the text is still easy to read before you send it.
  • Keep your original PDF. Compression cannot be reversed.
  • A PDF that is mostly text is already small. If compressing would only make it bigger, the tool tells you and makes no file.
  • Scans and PDFs full of photos shrink the most.

Frequently asked questions

How small can I make a PDF?

It depends on what is inside. Pages full of photos shrink a lot, while text-only files change very little.

Will the text still be readable?

Normally yes. If the result looks too blurry, aim for a slightly larger target size.

Can I still select or copy the text afterwards?

No. Each page is saved as a picture, so the page looks the same but the text can no longer be selected, copied or searched. Keep your original if you need that. Scanned documents had no real text to begin with, so nothing is lost there.

Why did the tool say it could not help?

Some PDFs, usually ones made from a text document, are already tiny. Saving their pages as pictures would make the file bigger, so the tool stops and tells you instead of giving you a larger file.

Is my document uploaded?

No. The PDF is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.
